New Delhi: The nation celebrates Ambedkar Jayanti today to commemorate the birth of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar who was a key architect of the Indian Constitution.
The Indian jurist, politician, philosopher, economist, and historian was born on April 14, 1891.
Dr Ambedkar was a staunch critic of the Indian caste system and is credited with bringing various reforms to elevate the marginalised communities.
As a scholar, he acquired doctorates for his studies in law, economics, and political science while pushing for political and social freedom for Dalits.
Here is how Ambedkar Jayanti will be celebrated across the nation today to honour Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on his 131st birth anniversary:
Mhow – After two years of the COVID pandemic, an influx of followers is expected at his birthplace in Mhow. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is also likely to pay a visit while about two lakh followers are estimated to be present there. Public programs will also be held this year. Sub–Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Akshat Jain said, “We have made arrangements for lodging and food for about two lakh people estimated to reach Mhow on Ambedkar Jayanti.”
Meanwhile, Congress leaders said that many senior party leaders, including State Congress President Kamal Nath and Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh, will reach Mhow on Thursday and attend the party’s program organised on Ambedkar Jayanti.
Dr Ambedkar was born in the Kali Paltan area of Mhow. The memorial built at his birthplace was dedicated by the Madhya Pradesh government on April 14, 2008, on the occasion of his 117th birth anniversary. It is the center of reverence for the followers of Ambedkar.
Delhi – The Delhi government announced that it will rename its Schools of Specialized Excellence after Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. CM Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia will participate in the program wherein a school situated in Khichripur will be named ‘Dr BR Ambedkar Schools of Specialized Excellence’, at 12 noon.
Meanwhile, JP Nadda will attend a program organised by BJP SC Morcha at Ambedkar International Center at 12 noon.
Mumbai – Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar will participate in a program to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti at YV Chauhan Center, at 10 am today. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and CM Uddhav will pay floral tributes at Chaitya Bhoomi at 11 am.
Lucknow – Today, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will take part in the foundation day celebrations of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University. A major event will be held at the university at 12 noon.
Meanwhile, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will organise various programs in every division.
BSP supremo Mayawati paid tribute to Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on his birth anniversary at the state party office in Lucknow.
Seminars will also be organised on this occasion by taking out tableaux. BSP is going to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti on a large scale for the first time after the Coronavirus outbreak. It will be celebrated in all 18 mandals of the state. On this occasion, the zonal in–charge will be the chief guest in their respective divisions. The District President will take people from their respective areas to the program to be organised at the divisional level.
As for the Samajwadi Party, all its workers and public representatives will read out the Preamble of the Constitution in every district of the state to honour the architect of the Indian Constitution. They will take the oath of the constitution and take a pledge to follow the path shown by Dr Ambedkar by lighting a lamp in the evening.
Notably, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will celebrate the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar as “Samwidhaan Raksha Diwas”. Today, it will organise seminars at all the district headquarters of UP.
Varanasi – Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani will attend the Ambedkar Jayanti program in the regional office of the Bharatiya Janata Party here. She is the chief guest of the seminar organised on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti.
Alwar – On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, today the 7th ‘Swabhiman Sankalp’ Maharally will be organised in Alwar under the aegis of BSP. Akash Anand, National Coordinator of the Bahujan Samaj Party will be the chief guest of the program. On this occasion, Akash Anand will undertake a 13–kilometer foot march with ten thousand supporters.
